New Year’s Eve in Paris: Check out the options to celebrate 2020

We arrived in the second half of the year, and we have already started planning the holidays, right ?! I get excited just waiting for this time of year. And if you planned to spend New Year’s Eve in Paris, the post is for you. I selected several ideas for the New Year 2019/2020.

It’s still a little early, so not all options are available, but as soon as I release updates here. So, save this post;)

It is worth mentioning that there are two sites that I like a lot. One is Come to Paris, and the other is called Paris City Vision. They are great not only for shows during this time of year but also for buying tickets to museums and attractions, as well as tours of Paris and the surrounding area. Here’s the tip!

How is the new year celebrated in Paris

Before talking about the programs for the new year, I need to tell you that the animation in France is not the same we are used to in Brazil. With many fireworks and such.

But that doesn’t want you to have options for spending the New Year in City Light. On the contrary! 😉

Generally, the French celebrate the new year among friends. It could be at someone’s house, in some nice restaurant or even at the club. Celebrations on the streets of Paris, near the Eiffel Tower or Avenue des Champs-Elysées, for example, are most sought after by tourists.

For Christmas in Paris and New Year’s Eve, the French often eat oysters, foie gras (a pate made with duck liver), a cake that looks like a roll called Bûche, and another eats traditional French dishes. It’s also the time to drink champagne and wine, of course.

New Year’s Eve in a typical Paris cabaret

Cabaret shows are very characteristic Paris attractions, no matter the season or the price. During the holidays, some cabarets in Paris offer a special night with a show and supper. I selected the main options already available for booking or buying tickets.

Moulin Rouge

The most classic of all, located in Montmartre, suggests a New Year’s Eve night with a cancan show, followed by a dancing night, accompanied by a bottle of champagne or wine, as well as sweet and savory delicacies.

There is still a second option – more expensive – that includes a full dinner and costs 550 euros. [from € 500]

A more economical option is the Crazy Horse cabaret. All in all, there are three possibilities for New Year’s Eve, with the cheapest option that starts after the turn and includes: the show, 1/2 bottle of champagne, and candy.

In the more expensive version (210 €), you have Petrossian Egg’xciting caviar instead of candy. [starting at 180 €]

Celebrate New Year’s Eve in Paris’ Streets?

As I commented at the beginning, celebrating New Year’s Eve on the streets of Paris is not a popular Parisian program – there are exceptions, of course!

It is something most sought after by tourists who dream of seeing the fireworks display in the Eiffel Tower region. There are even fireworks, but it is a little bit quick.

The truth is that to see all those fireworks behind the Eiffel Tower, you need to come on the most essential French holiday, July 14th. When they celebrate the fall of the Bastille. It’s a one-off party with so many fireworks in the Eiffel Tower region.

Not to mention that at this time it is cold, soon makes you want to stay in a warm place than in the street. Besides, these places are often very crowded, with people of all kinds, drinking – even if not allowed. There is a fine for anyone caught walking down the streets drunk. Another detail: the sale of glass bottles in these regions is prohibited from 20h to 5h in the morning.

What I will tell you is what I would say if any friend of mine asked my opinion. I would avoid celebrating the new year on the street. I don’t think Paris is the best option for this. I would opt for another city like London, which actually has an event on the streets. For the French capital, I advise you to choose one of the indoor suggestions I listed earlier. 😉

Tips to enjoy the New Year’s Eve in Paris

♥ TIP: If you still haven’t found what you’re looking for New Year’s Eve in Paris, I recommend visiting the Come to Paris website. They are great and offer several options.

♦ The city of Paris offers, from 5 pm on 31 December until noon on the first of the year, most public transport for free.

♦ Getting a cab at dawn can be a bit tricky, depending on where you are. My suggestion is that you have data to call an Uber or similar. Ah, if you’re Uber, be prepared to pay more because of the high demand.

♦ If you choose a nightclub, my suggestion is to have dinner or an aperitif before going to the party, as most do not serve dinner, much less a New Year’s Eve supper. If you don’t want to dine in a restaurant, you can visit Paris’ Grande Épicerie at Le Bon Marché and buy a variety of delicious food, such as caviar and champagne.

I hope you enjoy your New Year’s Eve in Paris, or anywhere else.
